Why do I get the error message 'Upload rejected, file not in CSV or XML format'?
You may have uploaded an Excel file (.xls) instead of a CSV (.csv) file. To save an Excel file as CSV you need to follow the steps below:
- open the file in Excel
- select 'Save As' from the drop down 'File' tab
- in the 'Save as type' list select: 'CSV (comma delimited)'
- select OK
If a dialog box is displayed, warning that the 'selected file type will only save active sheet', click OK.
Your CSV file may also have spurious characters - if you have created your CSV file in Excel. To remove these follow the instructions below:
- open the file in a text editor, such as Notepad - this will display any spurious characters or formatting that Excel may have added
- make any text changes whilst the file is open in your text editor
- re-save your file as a CSV file
