Blind person allowance 01 - Blind persons allowance
The local authority will enter your name on their register of blind people on the production of an ophthalmologist's certificate. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, local authorities are not obliged to keep registers of blind people, although some do, but you can claim the allowance if your eyesight is so bad you cannot do any work for which eyesight is essential. Your eye specialist will normally certify you blind before you are entitled to this allowance.
If you were registered for the 1st time after 5 April 2021 you may still be entitled to claim on this Tax Return if you have evidence that your sight condition existed in the year to 5 April 2021.
