National Insurance number
A National Insurance number is a nine-digit reference made up of letters and numbers in the format QQ123456A. Please enter the reference with no spaces.
The number can be found on a person's:
- P60 certificate or P45 from their current or last employer
- PAYE Coding Notice or a letter from HM Revenue & Customs
- payslip from work
It can also be found on any letter they have had from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) or Jobcentre Plus (in Northern Ireland, the Social Security office).
