A Low Noise Amplifier (LNA) is an integral component within a satellite telecommunications receiver system that acts to boost weak incoming signals while limiting the amount of additional noise introduced.
Its is used for signal reception via satellite where its main purpose is to perform initial amplification in the second block of the receiver system (immediately behind the antenna), amplifying the faint radio frequency (RF) signals captured by an Aerial/Antenna before further onward processing.
The Low Noise amplifier comprises of electronic components and Integrated circuit boards housed in a metal casing with power supply circuitry. The incoming power feed to the amplifier is generally DC and comes from a remote rack mount unit via a cable assembly.
The amplifier is a critical part of a satellite telecommunications “system” which is used for communications over commercial frequency satellites. The “system” provides voice and data connectivity to radio frequency (RF) networks.
The telecommunications system comprises of a satellite antenna, transmit or receive amplifier, frequency converter and cabling to both power source and signal transmission beyond RF. The amplifier amplifies radio frequency (RF) signals and serves to both filter noise and aid signal quality for signals received from satellite to earth.
Interface connectors include: DC Power: RF Input and RF Output Electro-mechanical assembly. Electronic components and circuit boards are housed in a metal chassis or casing.
For shipment the units are packaged in purpose designed timber cases with protective packaging material.
