What type of tax code does the employee have?

You can find an employee’s tax code on:

• PAYE online
• payroll software
• P6 or P9 coding notices

You can work out your new employee’s tax code (opens in new tab), if you are not sure.

A Scottish tax code starts with an ‘S’.

A Welsh tax code starts with a ‘C’.

If the employee’s tax code does not start with an ‘S’ or ‘C’, select ‘English and Northern Irish’.
